Tonight in our evening meeting, Sarah visited with us. She is an outgoing, hard-working, determined and fun 20-something from Nigeria. With her flashing eyes and echoing laughter, she draws others in with warmth. She grew up in a Christian family in Nigeria. When she was a young girl, she had malaria many times. During one of those times, when she was about 5 years old, her sister held her in her arms as Sarah shivered through the long night. Her younger brothers and sisters were always opening the door wanting to see if she was okay. Her sister got up and locked the door so they wouldn't bother her. After Sarah fell asleep, she remembers hearing the door open and someone come inside. This person laid their hands on her back and prayed for her. In the morning when they woke up, her sister went and unlocked the door.Sarah asked her "Was the door open last night?" Her sister said, "No, it's been locked all night." Sarah wondered, "Who was that that came in the room and prayed for me last night?" Her sister said, "Sarah that was Jesus. I can tell your fever is gone. He healed you!"
These are one of those foundational moments that Sarah remembers where God showed himself to her special way. She has been on staff with YWAM for 6 years and has been to more than 30 countries. Her heart now is to get more involved with counseling victims of trafficking around the world. She recently spent 6 weeks in Amsterdam working with girls in the red light district. She described the joy of seeing one girl leaving her pimp, being baptized and then sharing her story of freedom in Christ with other prostitutes.
I have to say the most powerful moments of Sarah's testimony was when she prayed and also gave some words she heard God telling her to say to us. She knew nothing about the situations the kids were facing. She spoke specifically to these situations and offered words from the Lord. I would say some people were stunned and touched by her words. In some cases they may literally be life- saving. The Lord made a huge impression on these kids hearts through Sarah and her prayer!
