Hurlach Castle

The castle is a major part of our enjoyment here. Today we had a tour by Sokol, one of the YWAM staff members. He told us about the amazing acquisition of the property just before the 1972 Olympics. YWAM needed to house 1,000 people and a barn to run a printing press. They find nothing available in Munich and kept moving out until they came to Hurlach. Hurlach has a large barn and outbuildings. They explained their acquisition of the castle that they bought "a large barn with a castle attached."
Of course, a 400 year old castle has had many renovations. The original building was constructed in 1600's, with renovations in late 1700's as well. The setting is peaceful and serene. Ywam runs Bible and discipleship trainings all year and also houses many short term groups.

After Ywam got the castle, their outreach at the Olympics proved to be vital in the events surrounding the killing of the Israeli athletes by terrorists. As the country was in shock and mourning, they were able to share eternal hope and comfort in the Lord.
